Slewfoot 7.21 – What is a Lute?

We are back again this week and there are many things to talk about! We start our show with a discussion about the surging Pittsburgh Penguins – are they for real again? Will they be able to maintain their current pace and dare we say, 3-peat?

We move on to the current standings and what teams are where in the standings. Is there going to be a shift in the standings? Are all of the teams currently in the playoffs going to remain in their current positions or will be a late season push for a playoff position?

We move onto what could potentially be a busy trade deadline – there’s already been a few moves and we discuss those moves as well as some trade rumours that are out there. Will there be a “flurry of activity”?

We discuss the unfortunate incident in Chicago involving Devante Smith-Pelley – there is absolutely no place for this in hockey, sports or in our society and we give our take on that.

We love the Olympics! We talk about what’s been happening with Team Canada and the great results we’ve had and what to look forward to in the next week. We discuss both the Women’s and Men’s hockey tournaments and who has been a standout in the tournament so far.

We end our show with some skill testing questions from some of our listeners/viewers – can they stump Dave? Tune in to find out!

Thanks for listening!

Slewfoot 7.4 – The One About the New Season

It’s Canadian Thanksgiving and we’re thankful that it’s a new Season of NHL hockey and what a start of the regular season it has been so far! There’s been a few records, there’s been lots of scoring, and there’s been some unexpected teams performing above expectations!

On the show today we talk about the first couple of days of the season, who has performed well, and who needs some improvement.

Well – the Golden Knights, Alex Ovechkin, the Leafs, The Blackhawks, Connor McDavid, the Devils, the Avs

Not so well – the Penguins, the Habs, the Sabres, the Predators

We get into some of the signings of some young players in the league and question if the trend of paying players before they perform is a good thing. Are teams overpaying these young athletes too much, too soon? Or are they considered an investment for these teams in the long run?

We get into one of our favorite games on the Slewfoot Hockey Show, “Yes Way, No Way” – we ask each other some questions and determine if we agree or disagree with certain statements.

Slewfoot 7.3 – The One About the East

This Episode of the Slewfoot Hockey Show is all about the East!

We kick off the show with Top Shelf News – the subjects we discuss today are:

1: The pre-season and the end of that. We’re glad the new season will be starting soon, as I am sure everyone else is too. We don’t think it’s a true indication of what will be happening in the real season.

2: The Injury Train makes an appearance again – it’s been everywhere all over the league, making stops in various cities and picking up passengers. It’s unfortunate, but it’s part of the game.

We preview the Eastern Conference, equally as competitive as the West. The Metropolitan will be a very tough Division again with teams like Washington, Columbus, the Rangers all looking to dethrone the Champions from Pittsburgh. There were many moves in the off season in the Division so it should be very competitive.

The Atlantic has also improved and there are also some teams looking to grind their way to the playoffs. The Bruins look strong, The Canadiens with all their new talent are looking to show that their early playoff exit from the spring was a fluke. The Maple Leafs are looking to show everyone they’ve improved and their young group of superstars are for real – but can they stay healthy? The Red Wings struggled last season – Dave is a believer in the Wings turning things around, and he is cautiously optimistic about their playoff chances. Tampa Bay is hoping their Captain stays healthy all season, and if he does they could be a force to deal with!

So who ends up on top in the East? Dave believes the Bruins are going to have a good year and finish in 1st – Fred believes it will be Tampa’s year.

Slewfoot 6.12 – the Golden Knights and the Injury Train

On this episode of the Slewfoot Hockey Show, Fred and Dave discuss the unveiling of the new NHL franchise in Vegas – the Golden Knights! They discuss the name, the logo and colours of the logo, and possible players that could be making their way to the Golden Knights next season. Good luck Golden Knights!

Next we discuss the rash of injuries that have been taking down many players in the NHL. The injury train is making the rounds and picking up players from all around the league! All aboard!

We also discuss some of the surprises and disappointments of the season so far – 1/4 into the season and there are definitely some teams and players that have both surprised and disappointed the masses.

We round out the show by playing the always-popular “Yes Way – No Way” game. Don’t miss it!
