Slewfoot 3.21 – It’s All Gold

Sochi 2014 is done.

Canada is Golden again! In case you missed it, both our Men and Women’s Hockey Teams won Gold in their tournaments in Russia and we talk all about it.

From the goal tending, to the defense, up to the forwards, the Men’s team only allowed 3 goals in 6 games against some of the best teams and players in the world – what an incredible turn of events and defensive effort.

The Women’s team – wow is all we can say. What an effort, what a story, what a performance! It goes down as one of the greatest efforts in Women’s Hockey history.

If you saw any of the games on television, you may have seen a commercial once or twice that features a Canadian hockey fan who lives overseas, teaches some of the locals the game of hockey, and gets visited by his friends, all with a bright red Molson Canadian fridge – we talk to Morgan Gerrard, the fan featured in those commercials, to get his take on the Gold Medal game and what he’s doing on the other side of the world.

Check out his commercial here:

Send us your feedback and let us know how your Olympic experience was, amazing, disappointing, horrible? Let us know!

Thanks for listening!

Slewfoot 3.20 – Blame the Big Ice!

So the “Big Ice” at the Olympics in Sochi has been contributing to what we feel is a boring brand of hockey – all these Superstars in one place, with very few goals and naps to be found everywhere (it’s honestly just the tighter checking and more defensive games being played – but don’t ask Jeff!)

big ice cream

Is this what Jeff means by “Big Ice”? (oh wait, this is Big Ice Cream…)

We look at some of the Canadian games and discuss the them and some of the players on the Men’s Ice Hockey team, what’s working, what’s not. Drew Doughty has looked very good, along with the rest of the Canadian defence, however the rest of the team hasn’t quite had too much success, but three wins so far is nothing to be ashamed of either.

We discuss how Toronto and Montreal’s representatives at the Olympics are performing, Phil Kessel isn’t doing too badly is he?

We also talk to Fred’s Dad about what’s been going on at the Olympics, how he feels the Men’s Ice Hockey team is performing, and how he’s not too impressed about the television networks. Can’t wait to have him back when Toronto and Montreal play again.

Please be sure to send us a message and let us know how your team is going to finish in the tournament! Send it to  and be entered into our draw fr a Team Canada prize pack.

Thanks so much for listening!

The Olympics Have Arrived! Finally!

We are so excited at the SHS this week! We’ve been talking about the Olympic Tournament for weeks now and finally, they have arrived!

While the actual tournament has not started for the men as of yet, they’re still a few days away (they all need to get over the jet lag) the Women’s tournament has begun, and Canada has started off very strong with a 5-0 pounding of the Swiss ladies. (They may still be jet lagged as well…) Is this sort of performance what the world is talking about when they discuss the domination of the Canadian and American Women’s hockey program???

We entertain Ed Snider’s comments regarding Claude Giroux’s second snub to represent the Canadian Men. In case you missed it, we all thought Steve Stamkos would make the trip to Sochi, turns out his leg hasn’t completely healed. So, he will be taking Martin St. Louis’ place on the plane for a trip down south to warmer weather, and Marty will be taking Steve’s spot on the team in Sochi. (Beaches & Mai-tai’s vs. Russian Vodka and Snow…tough choice?)

We discuss some of the other players who will miss the Olympics due to injury, as well as Kris Letang, who suffered a stroke and will miss 6 weeks of action – get well soon Kris!

There was still some NHL action to discuss surrounding Fred’s Habs, Jeff’s Leafs and we discuss the London Knights weekend – in the words of Meatloaf, 2 outta 3 ain’t bad. We let one of the Knights have it however – it needed to be said!

Please send in your comments! We appreciate you all for listening and tune in next week for more exciting discussion about pretty much the only hockey the world will be focused on – the tournament in Sochi!

Slewfoot 3.18 – Heads are Fallin’ Off!

Well, not literally…but boy oh boy, did Ben Scrivens play his head off against San Jose! He had a modern day record of 59 saves for the shutout to help his Oilers win against the Sharks – he sure looks like the goalie Edmonton needs for the future. Now about that defence…

There”s some discussion about Nazem Kadri’s hit last night in the game against Ottawa, was it a legal hit? Will there be further discipline? Maybe, time will tell.

The Olympic games start next week in Sochi, we discuss the Men’s hockey teams from the Czech Republic, Latvia, Switzerland and Sweden – the Swedes look the best to top this group. We also discuss the format of the Women’s tournament and that’s changed because of the dominating Canadian and American Women’s teams – look for some great action in Russia!

The Leafs are looking quite strong and Jeff has started the MVP talk for Phil Kessel, that may take some more convincing…Fred’s Habs are still inconsistent with their play, especially over the Superbowl weekend where Brandon Prust got into it with Tampa’s Ben Bishop. We hear the Ron McLean-less Don Cherry go off on Mr. Prust, and in turn, Jeff going off on Mr. Cherry…

The Knights are on a 6-game winning streak, thanks to their big guns starting to play like they should. We talk about their recent road trip and the success they had.

Thanks very much for listening, please be sure to send in your comments and questions!
